DNS-AS (DNS as an authoritative source) is a new, inventive way of bringing granular application visibility end to end in the network in an authoritative & performance-optimized manner.

This would make it possible for users to deploy application aware QoS policies, provide troubleshooting capabilities at an app-level end to end, do domain based routing for cloud apps (with app aware routing policies) and offer a good view of bandwidth consumption/utilization across the network.

All this would be achieved without Deep packet inspections in a performance optimized way by feeding in application metadata into DNS servers which distributes this information to network devices using regular DNS channels.
